Physical Therapist Assistant

Therapy · full time / part time · Campbell Hall, NY
$35.00/hour

Campbell Hall is seeking a compassionate and skilled Physical Therapist Assistant to join our therapy team. You'll work alongside our licensed physical therapists to help our residents regain mobility, strength, and independence after surgery, injury, or illness.

$1,000 sign-on bonus awarded after successful completion of six months of employment.

As a PTA, you'll be the bridge between our therapy plan and daily resident care. You'll implement therapeutic exercises, monitor progress, and celebrate the small victories that help our residents return to the activities they love. Your work directly impacts quality of life for the people in our care and gives families peace of mind that their loved ones are getting expert, hands-on rehabilitation support.

What you'll do

  • Implement physical therapy treatment plans under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist, including therapeutic exercises, stretching, and functional mobility training
  • Assist residents with gait training, balance exercises, and transfers to build confidence and independence
  • Monitor and record resident progress, vital signs, and tolerance to therapy; report changes or concerns to the supervising PT and nursing staff
  • Educate residents and families on proper body mechanics, home exercise routines, and fall prevention strategies
  • Maintain and sanitize therapy equipment and treatment areas according to infection control protocols
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team—nursing, social work, dietary—to support each resident's overall recovery goals
  • Document treatment sessions accurately and timely in the medical record
  • Adapt therapy approaches for residents with cognitive or communication challenges, always working with patience and encouragement

What you'll bring

  • Genuine compassion for older adults and those recovering from illness or injury
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to following treatment protocols safely
  • Excellent communication skills—you explain exercises clearly and listen to resident feedback
  • Physical stamina to be on your feet, assist with transfers, and demonstrate movements throughout your shift
  • Teamwork mentality; you support nursing and other departments and ask questions when you're unsure
  • Flexibility and problem-solving; residents progress at different rates and need encouragement tailored to them

Why join us

  • Work in a long-term care setting where you see real, meaningful progress—residents go home, regain function, and reconnect with family
  • Collaborate with a supportive therapy team and interdisciplinary staff who value your input
  • Opportunities for continuing education and professional development
  • Be part of a facility committed to resident-centered care and a positive workplace culture
  • Full-time position with stable, predictable scheduling

Requirements

  • Current New York State Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) license or certification
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to lift and assist residents; frequently lift up to 50 lbs and assist with transfers and repositioning
  • Ability to stand, walk, and be mobile throughout an 8-hour shift
  • Tuberculosis (TB) test or proof of immunity as required by facility policy
  • COVID-19 vaccination status in compliance with facility and New York State policy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable transportation and ability to arrive on time
